BANFF hails from Fort Severn, a Northern Ontario community and came south with his 5 siblings, Yamaska, Arisaig, Makwa, Algonquin & Kokanee (they’re known as the Provincial Parks Litter) and he came south to find his forever home. He’s had 2 sets of puppy vaccines, a microchip, “Interceptor Plus” dewormer and has been deemed a healthy boy by his Vet. We actually have a video showing both parents and mum looks like a medium sized Collie/Old English Sheepdog and his dad possibly a large sized black Lab/Border Collie/Shepherd. Mum also has an undercoat so Husky had to b in there somewhere too. We do also see Newfoundlander breed in the litter so we do expect him to be a large breed dog. He comes from a community with many stray dogs so he no doubt has many different breeds in him that are not as notable as well. He’s a very placid, laid back, gentle little fella who loves his humans almost as much as he loves taking naps. He’s well socialized with people and will excitedly run up to greet them with a wagging tail. He loves his snuggles and will happily curl up in your lap to get lots of them. BANFF is a happy-go-lucky, adventurous puppy who’s full of playfulness and curiosity. He’ll chase the squeaky toys around and also chase after a tennis ball. He’s very food motivated and does have his kibble in a slow feeder to help him slow down while eating. With his love of food he is very eager to be rewarded for good behaviour and while learning new commands so it should be noted that he’s very easy to train because of the reward waiting for him. With his lovely personality and good nature he’s ready to find his forever home where he can continue to thrive and grow. BANFF is crate trained and he sleeps quietly in it at night and will also nap in it during the day. He loves going out for walks and is very good at taking his bathroom breaks outside. He’s not quite housetrained yet as he’s not quite at the stage where he’ll ask you to take him outside to go but it’s more you have to watch for the signs that he needs a bathroom break. He’s loves going on his daily walks and gets excited when he knows he’s going on one. He walks with a harness and a collar to prevent pulling on his neck. Due to teething he’s at a chewing stage and needs lots of chewy toys to satisfy that urge not to chew on anything that he shouldn’t. Nyla bones work great as well as bamboo type bones. He’s starting to learn a few basic commands already and he knows to “sit” for his meals and take treats “gentle.” BANFF would enjoy a family who’s more laid back like he is. He does loves the outdoors though so they should be active and enjoy going on hikes, walks and will take him on adventures with them. He travels well in a vehicle and will just rest in his crate and quietly enjoy being driven around. He isn’t fostered with a dog but if there’s one in the home then they should be chill and placid like he is and they’d be fine putting up with puppy antics. He’s fostered with two older puppies and they love to chase and play with him. He would suit being with another dog in the home as long as they’re quiet and chill just like he is and definitely not a dominant dog. He can be an only dog as long as he’s not left alone for long periods at a time. He does have a cat in his foster home but the cat isn’t interested in interacting with a puppy at his stage of life. If there is one in the home then a younger one would be more suitable for a curious puppy. We also recommend a slow, monitored introduction be done while the dog is kept leashed for the initial introductions. He requires a fenced-in yard so he can run around and play safely so he wouldn’t suit being in an apartment and that’s also due to the size we think he’ll grow to be. Children should be aged 6yrs and up plus be gentle, loving and caring towards animals. BANFF has been on medical hold since he came into the rescue due to an issue that he developed and it’s very rarely seen in puppies. It’s not something that was life threatening but it could’ve been if it had been left untreated. We now feel it’s been resolved and this will be discussed in full in the phone interview with his potential adopter. We will also suggest that you discuss it with your own vet before proceeding with the adoption. BANFF, like all puppies is a cute, playful and fun puppy but he’ll require a lot of time, patience and dedication to training. We need his adopter to commit to signing him up for puppy training/obedience classes so he can be the most well behaved puppy possible. His neuter is included in his adoption fee and his potential adopter must be in agreement to have him neuter performed by the time he’s 9 months of age or 60lbs (whichever comes first.) It will either be at the Rescue’s vet clinic or be at the Barrie SPCA. You do have the option to use your own vet and we’ll reimburse you what we would’ve paid for it at the SPCA. However, his neuter will still have to be performed in the above timeframe for the reimbursement and we’ll need a copy of the procedure invoice and an updated photo of him (preferably in a cone after the surgery.) We use the photo on our fb page along with other animals that were spay/neutered that same week.
